Optometrist located in Phoenix, AZ & Mesa, AZ

Meet Dr. Smith

Alex J. Smith, O.D., F.A.A.O., is an experienced optometrist with a background in both patient care and academia. He holds a Doctor of Optometry degree from Pacific University College of Optometry and has completed Residency training in Specialty Contact Lenses at The University of California at Berkeley. With a focus on providing comprehensive eye care, Dr. Smith's expertise lies in fitting contact lenses for various corneal conditions including keratoconus, irregular astigmatism, high ametropia, dry eyes and myopia control.

Professionally, Dr. Smith has enjoyed diverse positions including Pediatrics, Geriatrics, Family and Academia. A published researcher in 2005, Dr Smith earned Pacific University’s Beta Sigma Kappa Award for Excellence in Research in 2006. In 2008, Dr. Smith served as a Peer Reviewer/Referee for Optometry, The Journal of the American Optometric Association. Over the years, Dr. Smith has given many invited lectures but is most proud of having served on Arizona's Shared Vision Initiative and presiding as Master of Ceremonies at the ensuing Legislative Luncheon in April of 2008. Unfortunately, the Arizona Legislature was not amenable to funding improved and expanded school vision screenings at that time. Vision is critical to learning for most children.

Outside of his professional commitments, Dr. Smith values spending quality time with his children, family, and friends. He believes in maintaining a healthy work-life balance and cherishes moments of relaxation and enjoyment with loved ones. Whether engaging in outdoor activities, sharing meals, or participating in recreational pursuits, Dr. Smith appreciates the fulfillment that comes from nurturing personal relationships and building lasting memories with those close to him.
